Look at me, all organized, opening signups while it's still March!

Date: Friday 10th June to Friday 17th June 2016.
Place: The Ship Inn, Old Colwyn, UK.
http://www.flipkey.com/old-colwyn-vacation-rentals/p478225/

The house can hold up to 22 in real beds, plus 12 in a bunk bed dorm, plus a couple of double sofa beds. There is oodles of space. But, please, don't delay signing up if you're sure you're coming, because it really helps us plan the travel arrangements.

Exact prices for accommodation will depend on the number of people attending, but it will be somewhere around 120-130 UKP per person for the whole week. Shorter stays will be priced up proportionately. Food will be extra (~45 UKP for the whole week).

Travel arrangements will be similar to last year. Now Pen is in Norfolk, there will be no Gatwick/Heathrow pickups. I'm near Rugby station, and have lots of space for accommodating Campers. There will be a minibus going from my house to Camp. You can find further details on the sign-up form, and I'll make a separate travel post later.

As usual, we won't be taking deposits, and you'll need to pay the full amount about a month before Camp Sparkle (or bring cash to Camp).

Send an e-mail to campsparkle@nsa.slashcity.org and I'll send you a registration form. I'll also add you to the registration post here.

I just discovered that I have two copies of Adam Lambert's Trespassing. Don't remember buying two, although it's possible—so I'm wondering if any of my dear sparkly Campers is mysteriously one CD down?

Let me know.

If nobody's lost one... would anyone like one?

I just discovered the existence of group discounts with some UK train companies.

As ever, UK train ticketing is a horrible, overpriced mess because it's organized and run by total incompetents. However, it seems that you may be able to get a group discount of 30% for a group of at least three people, depending on the operator, the service, and probably the phase of the moon. So if any of you are planning to travel to/from Camp together by train, there might be something useful here.

I am reminded that I have not yet confirmed the dates of next year's Camp.

The Ship Inn is booked for 10th - 17th June 2016.

\o/

As you look into flights, remember the option of flying to Norwich via Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam)(there are daily flights between Norwich and Schiphol). It will mean a looooong car journey across the country to North Wales, but you will be able to visit my new nest, so there's that.

Mark your calendars now!

Just a quick reminder for all you fabulous folks about JM's 30th birthday party weekend, on the 3/4 October at my house. Come celebrate with cake, cocktails and general sparkly festivities.

If you're planning to come and you haven't let me know yet, please drop me a note to let me know that you'll be there. Thank you :-)

We've having a sparkly weekend with JM, to celebrate her 30th birthday, over the weekend of the 3rd & 4th October! It will be at my house, near Rugby in the UK, and all you lovely folks are invited.

If you'd like to come, let me know via the camp sparkle email address (campsparkle at nsa dot slashcity dot org). The closest station is Rugby, which has a mainline link to London Euston, and the closest airport is Birmingham.

I've remembered just in time, again! Mug fostering!

My set of Pen's fantabulous boybander mugs are available to be borrowed again for Camp. I will be clinging tightly on to Brian!mug (mmmmmmmmm...delicious...), but all the other sparkly boys are free to hold your drinks and warm your hands, including two Kevins. Let me know who you'd like, and I'll bring them along (space permitting).

(Josh - I have your Chris!mug safely stored and ready to be reunited with you!)

A quick word about food provision.

I'm sure we will be sharing out the cooking duties as usual. Just to remind you all, we ought to be trying to set down to eat at around 7 - 7.30pm, ideally. That gives us plenty of time for whatever is planned for the evening, and those of us who are Getting Old (koff) will be able to digest our dinners before bedtime.

If you are planning to sign up for cooking, check the Timetable post to see which day would be a good one for you. I think we all get caught out by how much more time it takes to prepare food for many people—and this time there will be *19* of us for most mealtimes, and at least one vegetarian and one gluten-free to be catered for—so please sign up for Kitchen Minion duties as well so that nobody has to do this alone!

I *think* I'm remembering correctly that there is a Morrisons supermarket close by at which we'll probably do the Big Shopping, so you can check for ingredient availability in advance. There's also an Aldi just up the road, and… a Co-Op?

Anyway. Signing up.

Friday:
[livejournal.com profile] pensnest, the usual Pies, unless there is a rebellion

Saturday: [livejournal.com profile] turlough
NB You'll need to get a list of requirements together in time for the Friday Big Shop.

Sunday: [livejournal.com profile] chalcopyrite, [livejournal.com profile] ephemera
NB Ideally you'll get a list of requirements together in time for the Friday Big Shop.

Monday:
Wedding Reception/Feast [livejournal.com profile] nopseud and [livejournal.com profile] pensnest will take charge.

Tuesday:
nb All-Day excursion day on the timetable. [livejournal.com profile] stellamira suggested that we might do pizza for one of the meals, and I think this might be a good day for it. We can buy some pizza bases and make up pizzas to preference. There could also be salad, garlic bread, onion rings or whatever. I think what this means is that if we're all out all day, it should be a reasonably quick dinner, and whoever volunteers to take charge needn't be good at cooking, just willing to be traffic police and make sure that things go into ovens at the right times.

ETA: just need a volunteer for this one. Basically to figure out the shopping list and to make sure appropriate ingredients are put out.

Wednesday: [livejournal.com profile] ninjetti75, minion [livejournal.com profile] pensnest

Thursday:
nb This is down as Afternoon Tea day, and traditionally is also Leftovers and Takeout day, so we probably don't need anyone taking charge. We could, though, set a Dinner Time for anyone who wants to talk about plans for Camp Sparkle 2016 to bring their food and their ideas to the table, which I think would be a good thing to do.

Signups welcome!

Hi All!

Well. I've done a room assignment thingy, so can you take a look to make sure you are put where you want to be, before I call the owners and arrange for the beds to be made up accordingly.

Ground Floor
Bed 1 [livejournal.com profile] _bettina_ (made up as double)
Bed 2 [livejournal.com profile] msktrnanny (made up as double)
Bed 3 [livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard and [livejournal.com profile] stellamira (twin)

First Floor
Bed 4 [livejournal.com profile] bubbleforest and [livejournal.com profile] iconis (twin)
Bed 5 [livejournal.com profile] rikes and [livejournal.com profile] saba1789 (made up as double)
Bed 6 [livejournal.com profile] pensnest and Beast (double)
Bunk Room [livejournal.com profile] kira_j

Second Floor
I'm not allocating rooms by number as I'm not sure which is which, so to some extent it will be 'find your own' once you get there! (If the owner can give me room numbers I'll put them up.)

Double at back [livejournal.com profile] nopseud
Small room on right [livejournal.com profile] turlough (made up as double)
Twin [livejournal.com profile] ninjetti75 and [livejournal.com profile] ephemera
Twin [livejournal.com profile] chalcopyrite and [livejournal.com profile] fadedsouls

I think that I've heard back from everyone who expressed an interest in coming to Camp this year. I'll be finalising the cost this weekend and mailing everyone.

If you've signed up but your name is not on this post, then please get in touch ASAP. Also, I'd be grateful if you could check the travel arrangements I have for you on that post, and let me know if there's a mistake.

If you want to come and you haven't let me know yet, then please get in touch before Monday.

Firstly, does anybody want a mug?

Secondly, you'll probably remember the VIBRANT Camp Sparkle T-shirts that [livejournal.com profile] nopseud and I have been known to wear. Would anyone be interested in getting one printed for yourself? I can make the artwork available if there is demand, so that you can take the .pdfs to your local T-shirt printer and pick your own colour and size.

We need to decide how large a minibus we want to hire for Camp. The main factor is how many people want to go on the various trips. PLEASE fill out the poll. If you don't, then you might end up with a lot of rather uncomfortable journeys around North Wales crammed into the back of a car.

I'm going to propose a timetable, entirely subject to change, because I think it will be useful to have a starting framework. Do read the other posts first!

Cheesy Wedding Disco Party

Excursion Day: Conwy
am: Conwy Castle
pm: Plas Mawr Elizabethan House
nb alternative excursion to Aquarium for those not interested in Conwy
evg: concert footage? film? also possible baking of sparkly gingerbread men, ready to decorate on Wednesday

evg Results of Photo Scavenger Hunt
a review of the activities of the marionettes

So. Your thoughts?
pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Baby Me sepia)
[personal profile] pensnest
a) I'm sure we will fit in many games of Cards Against Humanity, and I will bring the Dixit/Pixit stuff if there is demand. Also [livejournal.com profile] ninjetti75's board and role-playing games.

b) Sparkly Dancing Boy Cookies, cooking and decorating. [livejournal.com profile] stellamira has agreed to take charge of the cooking, as she has a recipe, and after that, anyone who feels like it can participate in the personalisation of the ninjabread cookies.

c) Sparkly Lyrics Quiz, which I think [livejournal.com profile] bubbleforest was, er, volunteered to run—are you up for that? And [livejournal.com profile] trumpeterofdoom expressed a willingness to help compile questions.

d) The Bobblehead Adventures! At least, I think [livejournal.com profile] nopseud is going to bring marionettes. I suggest the small ones might be the most flexible, and if they have their strings, they can be posed 'dancing'. We must simply make sure that the bestringed SDBs accompany us on all excursions. I feel sure they will also be photographed making out in the shower, on the pool table, on the dashboard of the minibus etc.

Dammit. I don't think I have that miniature Lava Lamp any longer. There should be a baleful presence following them about.

e) Photo Scavenger Hunt, [livejournal.com profile] rikes to organise. This presumably needs a Final Deadline and a judging time to be set towards the end of the week.

A. The Wedding Day

A full day of festivities (well, we'll probably spend the morning getting it ready), to include the Carter nuptials ([livejournal.com profile] fadedsouls, how much time does it amount to?), a revisit of Joey's wedding as we have embarrassing footage of that available, and the magnificent Bass extravaganza.

Plus a wedding reception style feast.

And afterwards, dancing (as I recall, [livejournal.com profile] saba1789 volunteered to organise the video/music)!

I'm assuming we will have a Dress Code for this. My normal wedding attire includes a Serious Hat, which might get in the way of footage watching; Lance's choice for his wedding was 'Royal Wedding meets Met Ball', which is a tall order when you have to pack for an economy flight, so presumably we will stick with our usual Sparkly.

B. Show 'Em What You're Made Of OMG they're back again, with manly tears and naughty words and hugs and all the good stuff. An evening of oohs and aaahs and wallowing! Er. Possibly there should be a drinking game? Or a pixy stix game?

I'm sorta assuming we will have Many Things To Say afterwards. I do hope so!

C. Footage of Choice I'm thinking here of the footage that some of us are putting together on a theme of our choice.

I have a Lance selection. What?
I also have Joey set.
JM has promised "JM's Favourite AJ Things", to compensate in some small way for not being there herself.
Anyone else putting together a selection? Doesn't have to be about one person, could be themed, eg 'Crossover Footage', or 'Truly Appalling Outfits', or 'The Funny Bits'.

I don't think I have an editing program, but surely something surprising and new could be done on the Chris front with footage from his Manband and Gone Country experiences? I don't think we've collectively watched either of those. [livejournal.com profile] rikes had a couple of possibilities in mind for Justin/Nsync—have you managed to put something together? Plus I have a feeling that at least one person may be of the opinion that there is Not Enough Brian…?

D. Concerts, films, anything else

[livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard suggested that My Big Fat Greek Wedding ought to have a place. Perhaps we could put that on early on the Wedding Day so that those of you not involved in making vol au vents or cheese and pineapple hedgehogs can watch it?

We will probably find that HoC and Harry and Max mysteriously find themselves up on the video wall at some point, but is there something else people actually want to watch? Does anybody have footage of the NKOTBSB concert? Recent BSB concerts? Requests for films featuring a sparkly boy?

Suggestions for places to visit. I'm going to leave out (most of) the things we visited last time. And please, if you have been looking at possible options in the vicinity and have something to add, do mention it now.

Obvious places to visit are:

Caernarfon Castle (£6.75) open 0930-1700 daily
Edward I era
http://cadw.wales.gov.uk/daysout/caernarfon-castle/?lang=en

Conwy Castle (£6.75) open 0930-1700 daily
Edward I era
http://cadw.wales.gov.uk/daysout/conwycastle/?lang=en

Penrhyn Castle (grounds open 1100-1700, castle open 1200-1700) (£10.90, or £10.35 in group)
19thC Norman-style castle + grounds.
(Behind the scenes tour of house available 1200-1500 on Sat/Sun)
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/penrhyn-castle/

Plas Mawr (£5.75) open 0930-1700 daily
Elizabethan house in Conwy.
http://cadw.wales.gov.uk/daysout/plasmawr/?lang=en

Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens (Anglesey) (£6.50) open 1200-1700 Sun, Tues, Wed, Thurs
http://www.plascadnantgardens.co.uk/2/en-GB/THE-HIDDEN-GARDENS

There is Llanberis , with the Welsh Slate Museum, the Electric Mountain (hydroelectric power station), and the rack-and-pinion railway to the visitor centre at the summit of Mt Snowdon. We had a trip to the Slate Museum and Electric Mountain last year. If anyone wants to do the Snowdon trip, we will need to book tickets in advance and take our chances with the weather.
http://www.llanberis.com/

There is the Blaenau Ffestiniog scenic Railway
http://www.festrail.co.uk/#
with a nearby slate mine at Llechwedd Slate Caverns
http://www.llechwedd-slate-caverns.co.uk/

and Portmeirion
http://www.portmeirion-village.com/

and the Blue Planet Aquarium (£16.50, but discounts available for online booking)
open daily 1000-1700 (1800 at weekends) with first live show in Aquatheatre at 1130.
http://www.blueplanetaquarium.com/

There is also Llandudno, where I assume we will probably go for Afternoon Tea again. There are various attractions in Llandudno, so we could probably spend quite a bit of the morning there and have our Tea as a late lunch as we did before.

One of the main things that came out of our discussions about Camp last time was that we need to figure out a timetable well in advance, so it's time to start thinking about what we're going to do at Camp, and when we are going to do it.

I'm going to put up separate posts about the options over the next couple of days, as comments could get really unwieldy if they are all attached to just one.

Not everybody is going to be there for the full week, and there are various arrival times, so if you're a non-standard participant and really, really want to do something that's tentatively scheduled for a time you won't be at Camp, now is your chance to make a strong case for it to be scheduled more handily.

Posts will be:

1. Outings

2. Footage Schedule and Festivities

3. Other Fannish Stuff

4. A proposed timetable, as a place to start!
