A Food Poll

[livejournal.com profile] nopseud and I thought it would be fun (and work-lite) to have a supper of traditional British fish and chips on Saturday evening. We'll need to give them a bit of notice, so please let us know what you'd like.

[Poll #1143729]

* I don't know what kinds of pie there may be, the usual suspects are steak, minced beef, chicken, but I make no guarantees. If necessary, specify in comments and give a second option in case what you want isn't available.
** A Cheese Fryit is apparently not unlike a fishcake, only... made of cheese. A veggie option.
*** I hope somebody will try one of these so that I can see what it is. Won't be me, though.

Sounds yummy!

I have no idea what the difference between cod and haddock is though- which one would you recommend for a beginner (ie. is more neutral?)

So cheese fryit = fried cheese, or did misunderstand something?

I've eaten fish and chips once or twice before, but have no idea what was in it.

Decisions, decisions! The cheese and fish are equally tempting...

And we can eat yummy greasy food every day for all I care. :)

Considering some of the things they fry in batter around here, I wouldn't bat an eyelid to see a deep fried battered pie *g*

Ooooh what I'd give for a proper deep fried Mars Bar...

Yes, the UK is ripe with desecration by deep fry. I'm so glad you decided to out do the South.

Ha, I knew cod = turska but I had no idea what haddock was (kolja)... as for the taste, I have no idea which one would be better. I might just put down cod. [g]

They both sound scary, but I know they'll be yummy. So I think I'll take haddock, just to be able to say I've eaten it. :D

They're quite similar -- flakey white fish, served as largeish fillets. Haddock has a slightly denser texture to the flesh, and comes apart in firmer flakes. Personally I prefer it to cod, but as Pen say, that maybe just be a north/south thing. They're both perfectly nice and equally traditional, anyway.

So cheese fryit = fried cheese, or did misunderstand something?

I'm just guessing, but if it's something like a fishcake, then it will be a mixture of cheese and potato shaped into a thickish burger-shape and deep fried. Possibly, having Googled, with onion in it too.
