Camp Sparkle - the Arrangements!

Part One: Food

Thank you so much, everyone who volunteered for kitchen duty! We shall in consequence have a nicely varied menu.

I've devised a probable roster for cooking dinners. Lunches, mostly, will be the 'graze on bread, fruit and general Stuff' variety.

Friday
the more-or-less traditional shepherd's pie, and variations, with Death Cake (and/or fresh fruit) to follow - [livejournal.com profile] pensnest

Saturday
Lunch - [livejournal.com profile] msktrnanny and [livejournal.com profile] rikes offered salad and grilled cheese, so we'll take them up on that
Dinner - curry (ie Traditional British Food!) - [livejournal.com profile] nopseud
followed, we suggest, by those yummy sounding peppermint chocolate muffins by [livejournal.com profile] adelate Or, we can have those on Sunday, which is her *actual* birthday, and have ice cream instead on Saturday night. [livejournal.com profile] adelate, it's your call!

Saturday, incidentally, will be N's Official Birthday, because [livejournal.com profile] bubbleforest has to leave on Sunday.

Sunday
Breakfast will be Mega Cooked Breakfast, and if anyone has room for lunch, the usual grazing fare will be available.
Dinner - I suggest this is probably the best day for the vareniki dumpling thingies enticingly offered by [livejournal.com profile] valya22 and [livejournal.com profile] saba1789

Monday
Dinner - [livejournal.com profile] ninjetti75's 'something with rice'

Tuesday
Dinner [livejournal.com profile] chalcopyrite's spaghetti with sauce - I think this is the Chatsworth day, so lots of us will have indulged in Cream Teas of Distinction

Wednesday
Dinner
It'll be the day of our Alton Towers visit, so I don't know whether it's reasonable to ask [livejournal.com profile] ihearthings_ii to produce both lasagne and the Danish dessert she volunteered... Personally, if it's a choice I vote for the dessert and will be happy to deal with the lasagne, as I'm likely to be less knackered from Alton Towers than you lively young people, harrumph.

Thursday
Dinner at the pub! We can therefore polish off most of the food in the place at lunchtime.

An alternate plan, if those involved in cooking would prefer it, would be to eat at the pub after one of our day trips and have the spaghetti or lasagne thing on Thursday. Give it some thought. Indeed, if anyone has a good reason to switch stuff around—you won't be going on one of the Outings, and can cook on that day, for instance—do comment and we'll see if we can work out a deal.

Note to Chefs: don't be scared of cooking for many. [livejournal.com profile] nopseud and I have coped. And we'll be around to help if, uh, if we can.

Anyone who's willing to be a Kitchen Minion (I know lots of you have offered), please volunteer in person to the Head Chef Of The Night!

Re: Ingredients
If you need anything which you're not sure you'll be able to obtain in a regular UK supermarket, please liaise with [livejournal.com profile] nopseud to find out whether you'll need to bring it with you. She and I can probably cover a fair range of dried herbs and spices, too.

PS If I'm remembering the place correctly, the big dining table is right next to the kitchen, so if we're sitting round the table having a discussion of something, there's no need for the chefs to miss out.

Hi! I really wouldn't mind doing both lasagna and dessert so as long as I have someone helping me chop and stuff. Is it soon enough if I get the list of ingredients to you tomorrow?

And I can calculate the ingredients for dessert pretty easily, but I'm a little unsure about the lasagna... halp?

Yay food! I'll bring the peppermint crush for the muffins but the rest is very straighforward and I should be able to get the ingredients easily from a regular store. :) We can totally have them on Saturday! Oh, is there an electric sort of a whisk? I've been known to whisk the batter by hand before but I'd much rather not. [g]

Hooray birthdays with awesome people :))

I'll help you out! :)

Oh cool. I'll write her tomorrow, then. Are any of the supermarkets Asda, Tesco, Morrison or sainsbury's by any chance?

EEEEEEEEEE, Food And Excitement! *bounces*

I may have to beg off the pub outing, which SUCKS (out loud!), but I am Well And Truly Broke after paying my Camp Expenses. We shall see, and if I *do*, I'd be more than happy to see what I can cobble together out of the leftovers in order to use them up more efficiently.

Sorry for the double-commenting, but I just wanted to make sure, so it's in both relevant posts:

It appears both my games and my dinner are scheduled for Monday...dinner won't take an enormous amount of prep time, but games can run for somewhat random amounts of time...does anyone want to swap places on the Chef Duty roster?

I'll be bringing cookies with me on Monday for you all (mmm, cookies) and would be more than happy to throw in some money for food whilst I'm there on the day :) However much you feel is appropriate, let me know.

[identity profile] chalcopyrite.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I'll swap. Sketti sauce is a lot more forgiving of being done ahead too, if that's how things work out.

[identity profile] ninjetti75.livejournal.com 2009-05-06 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome!

Like I said, mine isn't too bad to do, so whipping it up after Chatsworth should be no problem, and better than trying to fit around everything else I'm personally running. *g*

Thanks!

Um... I'm not quite sure whether I will make vareniki or something like that. I would maybe prefer to make a soup instead.

[identity profile] ihearthings-ii.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hi!
Sorry, I've been a flake. Yes, dishes for the lasagna. I don't need a dish for the Kringle, just a baking tray in the oven. However, if you could bring some oregano/rosemary/basil and nutmeg? Thanks!

[identity profile] ihearthings-ii.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Dried, yes. Awesome, thanks!

Whatever you feel comforatble with doing! Let me know what you need for your soup recipe (with quantities, if possible) and I'll pick them up when I do the shop on Friday.

Is there a place to shop there? I'm going to need ingredients for the muffins as well. :)

There's a big supermarket just a few minutes drive up the road, so we'll have no problems with shopping. I'm trying to get all the food for the weekend sorted on Friday, though, so if you let me know what you need for the muffins, I'll pick everything up then.

I'll write down the ingredients for one batch here, but I think I might do a triple amount?

So for one batch: 2 eggs, 1½ dl sugar (please tell me you guys have desilitres because I can't convert, haha), 75 grams margarine, 1dl milk (do we have lactose intolerant people? They should have milk that's okay for them too, if there are any), 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar, 1½ teaspoon baking powder and 2½ dl baking flour.

I'm bringing the peppermint chocolate chips from here, and perhaps we could sneak some of the stuff we only need a teaspoon or a few of from someone's kitchen?
nopseud: (camp sparkle - timberjoec -- nopseud)

[personal profile] nopseud 2009-05-07 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
1 decilitre - 100 millilitres, right?

I can bring baking powder, no problem. I don't have vanilla sugar -- would vanilla essence do instead? And by 'baking flour' do you mean what we'd call 'self-raising flour' over here. (Flour with raising ingredients already added.)

What about muffin tins? I don't know if there are any at the house. I can bring a couple, anyway.
adelate: Min Yoongi with his eyes closed on an orangey yellow background about to take a sip out of a yellow Teema coffee mug (Chris/JC - rockstars baby!)

[personal profile] adelate 2009-05-07 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right!

I have never used vanilla essence, I don't know! Eep! And no, I just meant flour for baking, so wheat flour or similar. :) (Sorry if I'm confusing, I'm not used to baking in English! Haha!) The baking powder does the raising. If you have tins, that would be awesome! I thought I might use the sort of paper cups, but those lose shape so easily, tins would rock. :)

[personal profile] nopseud 2009-05-07 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll bring the vanilla essence -- basically, you just add a few drops of that. Start light, and then you can taste the batter, and add a bit more if it needs it.

I'll get plain flour, then.

Awesome. Thank you so much! :)
