We're also not too far from Windermere, classic holiday destination and setting for many of the Swallows and Amazons books.

I also though we could take a trip up the Settle-Carlisle railway line. It goes through some beautiful scenery and Carlisle is an interesting town.

I completely forgot about the Settle-Carlisle line! I'm all for spending a day traveling through gorgeous Yorkshire hills. Not to mention the Ribblehead Viaduct! (Why don't I have a train travel icon???)
