pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Camp Sparkle Death Cake)
[personal profile] pensnest posting in [community profile] campsparkle
[livejournal.com profile] nopseud and I thought it would be rather nice to enjoy a more varied diet during Camp Sparkle: the Ecclesiastical Remix, than hitherto, so...

Who's going to cook? We'll happily take responsibility for the weekend, but it would be nice to try out some Other Foods during the remainder of the week. Like, maybe the Finnish Contingent would like to produce something one evening, for example? We can figure out what ingredients are not likely to be available locally in time for you to pack whatever might be necessary... It doesn't have to be an example of Your National Cuisine, of course, anyone is welcome to produce, oh, spaghetti with red sauce or whatever you feel up to cooking in quantity.

Any volunteers?

I'm a lousy cook and would rather not be responsible for feeding anyone. But I volunteer to help in the kitchen every day!

We had vareniki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vareniki) at [livejournal.com profile] valya22's today and were actually discussing doing this at Camp Sparkle as well. OK, mostly it was me saying 'you should totally do this at Camp Sparkle!' but I think Valya wasn't entirely against it so I'm volunteering her. *g*

I would also love to cook something but I've never actually cooked for a larger quantity of people so I don't know if I could do it. But then again, how hard can it be, right? *is jinxing herself all to hell*

I'll ask my mom to help out with the quantity of ingredients. :)

And it don't need to be only vareniki. Russian quisine has a lot of other delicious "stuffed dumpling"-things I could cook. :)

Oh, I can live with assistant chef! I already have experience with helping with the vareniki, too! :)

Only 5 more weeks! :DDD

Ooh, they look delicious. I love stuffed-dumpling varieties of food.

One of the things I learned from past experience of large-scale catering is that pasty and dough are amongst the things which can be tricky. It often better to make several smaller batches than to try one huge one, as otherwise the mixing and handling can end up with the pasty getting really over-worked.

If I can count on the presence of a few dependable scullions I can probably manage to fix dinner one day. It probably won't be very Swedish, at least not in the traditional sense because I seldom cook that kind of food, but it should probably be edible at least :-)

You should totally swing by IKEA and stock up on meatballs ;)

Darn, now I'm hungry....

If Scandinavian help is needed, I could probably be bribed into helping

I'll definitely be at least helping with the cooking, for sure. I was about to suggest this anyway! I'm pretty sure I could manage decent home-made pizza, at least. ;)

Eeeeeeee, I'd love to cook a meal and/or help out in the kitchen!

You can ask Terri's opinion of my Poor Man's Polynesian, and I can do Asian and Cajun style rice dishes...if Outi's got pizza covered, I could probably do burgers, or maybe a chef's salad...

..really, I cook. Buy some stuff and throw me at the kitchen; I'll come up with something. (I lean towards rice with meat as a standard dish...chicken, shrimp, beef, doesn't really matter. A little ginger, some soy sauce, I'll go to town. And I can probably bring the soy sauce.)

So, a Meat & Rice with soy sauce on Saturday, you're saying? For contrast with Curried Something? I can totally do that. Boneless chicken breast, beef or pork of pretty much ANY cut, or some salad shrimp and some ginger and oil to cook it in, along with rice, and it's a party. Or a meal, whatever. ;D

I, however, can not. But I am willing to help.

I don't mind at all! I can bake whenever, I just mentioned the day since I had planned on baking for it. Those peppermint chocolate chip muffins maybe? I'm undecided so far :D

[livejournal.com profile] rikes and I were chatting and we thought a tossed greens plus veggies salad and grilled cheese meal would be great. By looking at comments we're not sure if you need an extra meal or not but we figured an extra volunteer or team would be better than running one shy. So. We'll happily do the meal if you need it!

I thought I had said this, but I guess it was one of the posts I only made in my head. If you need another evening meal, spaghetti with sauce, or stirfry, is something I do a lot (and well, say tasters), and/or I'd be happy to make pancakes some morning, given ingredients and slight warning. :)

So wait, am I cooking or not? Cause I need to bring my recipes and stuff if I am.
