It was James' birthday yesterday. I like to buy him t-shirts that I know will appeal to his sense of humour, and this one went down really well.

Since last, I posted.

I had to change the reservation day for our Christmas meal out with Pauline, my brother, niece, and nephew. Reason being when I went to get the deposit money off my brother to take to the restaurant, he decided to tell me that my niece was actually working on the booked day. It took a bit of organising, and a lot of luck that a table was left at this late date, but I managed to change the reservation to a day everyone was available.

I'll just skip past the fact I also realised I'd double booked myself and James with both our tickets to see Kinky Boots at the theatre and the meal being the same time/day. So, the situation with my niece got us out of a jam, too. Not that I told Pauline what I'd done...

We did a craft fair on Saturday and it was a good one. A long day and it was raining really heavily when we were leaving, so we got soaked packing the car, but it was worth going. I also liked the organisers gave tickets to all the traders to get free coffee or tea and then later on gave out little cones of sweets. It's those little touches that make all the differences.

Our table was opposite the chocolate tombola which was very popular, so we got lots of passing people. Though, sadly, I didn't win when I tried myself.

In an hour or so my brother is coming to put up a hand rail on our outside front steps. There are four pretty steep steps and while we can get up them fine, I'd feel better if some kind of rail was there, especially when things get slippy in the winter. The rail he's putting up is really solid, and in fact, I took it from mam's house when we had to give that up, so it's good it's being installed at last. And eta, it's up and installed.

On Friday I had a one to one with Rosie cut for talk about weight )

It was Long-Tailed Tits day today! There were about eight of them—they are very hard to count—at the feeders today. Very sociable diners, all clustering together. So cute!

Have been trying to help our Boy prep for a job interview again. He has many good examples of where he has been an Excellent and Useful employee, but he is not at all fluent at expressing them.

*fingers crossed*

Concert last night at one of the localmost churches, which is a very pleasant place in which to sing. We sounded good. It was nice.

Dear Becky

No, I don't want you to update my website and maximise my sales. Do you in fact know what my website is for? What exactly it is that I am selling? Didn't think so.

Yours, irritably,
Pen

Last night I thought I was incubating—had incubated, indeed—the most horrendous cold. I was miserable! I cancelled this morning's yoga and prepared to battle with Vicks and tissues.

This evening I'm... more or less fine. I do emit an occasional mighty sneeze, and I don't think I can manage any top notes, but otherwise, I'm good. It's nice, but rather baffling.

Spent Sunday at a mixed chorus rehearsal, which was interesting and useful although possibly less fun than I had anticipated. We had a drama chap come to work with us on our performance. He choreographed a number of carefully-thought-out moves, but I had hoped he would work with us on conveying emotions through body language or learning to make our faces work harder for us, or something. Still. It was a useful start on a more disciplined presentation of our song.

Now we just have to remember it all.

I think my procrastination skills are faltering a bit, which is just as well as I have a Yuletide story to write and Christmas stuff to organise. I have made a start on the Yuletide thing, which is flowing reasonably well, so far, but it's fairly canon-y at present and I shall flounder far more once I am further adrift. Meanwhile I have also found myself writing a Romance of a not-fannish kind, unless it be a rather remote tribute to Georgette Heyer. Sentences keep forming themselves in my mind when I am trying to go to sleep. So far I have not resorted to phone or notebook to deal with them, as I more or less trust myself to be able to say what I want to say, but argh! Months and months without the ability to write so much as a sentence of fiction, and now, abundance! And I'm sooooo indolent. Sigh.

Christmas will be getting under way for me this coming weekend. Well, no, that is not strictly true, of course, I have parcels arriving daily and even went shopping yesterday in Jarrolds Food Hall, always a pleasure. I approve of Norfolk Stuff. And they have a Chocolate Library. Anyway, do sign up for a card from me, on my previous post! I like sending cards out, despite the eyewatering costs of postage.

But this weekend is the chorus concert at the local church, just up the road. It is the traditional start to my chorus's Christmas season, except last year when somebody at the church managed to double book and we ended up not going there. Grump. As mentioned above, I may not be able to hit the high notes, but there are few of these as I only sing Tenor on one song with the women's chorus. (Oddly, I managed an F# on Sunday in brief rehearsal with my quartet, though my voice was feeling the strain at Eb earlier.) I am arming myself with a handful of very short Christmas poems, as I'll probably be doing some of the MC's duties.

I seem to have developed an alternative personality for Reddit. Rather more astringent than I am here, where I am myself, and also, rather wittier. Hmm.

Back to the story with the deadline.

it's Christmas Time!

Well, now. Serves me right for not perusing my Dreamwidth reading page more regularly—I feel sure I would have been prompted to ask for Christmas card addresses by now. Still, better late than never: if you would like a card from me at Chrimbletide, please put your name and address in comments, which are screened. If you'd particularly appreciate a religious card, do say so, and if you'd particularly hate one, say also.

We went to see Wicked For Good on Saturday and I really enjoyed it. Both the film itself, and the buzz in the cinema, the charity cos players were there and Odeon had various displays up for photo ops while the staff were all wearing witches hats, add in the general air of excitement of people going in, and it was just a lovely atmosphere.

I'm sure James would have enjoyed it too if he'd been awake for more than 1% of it *g*

I will cut him some slack though as he came down with a nasty chest cold on Sunday, so much so he had to call in sick from work yesterday as he was really not well. He's a bit better today, and thankfully, had annual leave in for Thurs and Fri so with his regular day off will only have to claim two sick days. It also gives him time to rest up, as we've got a craft fair on Saturday, and then my MiL wants to take us out for Sunday dinner on Sunday.

I got a new to me type of comment at AO3 the other day. It was someone saying they thought the fic would make a good comic and said their insta name if I wanted to make that happen. Curious, I Googled the insta and it was from a fan who does comic strips, for a price I'm sure, so while their work was good, I won't be taking up the offer. The fic they picked was my Intoabar 911 Lonestar Voyager cross featuring TK and Nelix, which I guess could support a comic strip, but I'll never find out. And mainly, have come away from the comment with a grudging respect for someone putting their work out like that. Thanks for Cesy in comments for telling me what these comments are about. No respect at all now.

I enjoyed Strictly at the weekend, the Steps mashup was great, but really what I was really looking forward to was Nikita dancing with Layton again, and I was not disappointed. Well, I would have loved their part of the routine to be longer, but the behind the scenes stuff that various people shared helped make up for it.

I was sad for La Voix having to pull out though, she wasn't the best dancer, but made the show so much fun.

Class wasn't on yesterday, as someone had booked the hall for a wake. Now, the hall we use isn't a typical gym studio, it's actually part of the old Miner's Welfare building that's joined to the modern gym by a series of maze like hallways, and does actually have a bar at one end. But, I was still surprised that anyone would want to use it for something like that, as it's not the most picturesque place, and also kind of smells of sweat. But, people like what they like, I guess.

I bought a tunnel thing that's designed to circle the bottom of the Christmas tree, the idea being, the cats will go through the tunnel and leave the actual tree alone. They've both enjoyed going through it, but I suspect what it'll be is a handy step to help Kevin climb the branches. Anyway, here's Murphy enjoying the middle.

Hot winter spice Ribena is delicious stuff. I'm always thrilled when I see it back in the shops, and I may have had three mugs already today.

All much needed though, as it's so cold and last night and this morning snow came down big time, and was lying, too. I looked like some kind of yeti by the time I'd walked to class this morning, and my feet were soaked, as my trainers were no match for the snow. I was the only person at class for ages, and Rosie was on the verge of cancelling when another guy turned up. At that point we had a talk and decided as we'd both done the talk for today previously, we could skip that and just do the exercise section.

Then three other people turned up, all but one old timers, so we kept with the plan and just had the activity part of the session.

I was offered a lift home by one of the guys in class, but as I told him, I didn't mind getting some extra steps in walking home, plus, my big coat was soaked, and I didn't want to get his car wet. I'm glad I went though, I was considering not doing so, especially when my friend texted saying she wasn't coming, but in the end it was a good session, even if it was shorter than expected.

And ha, talking about my big coat. I posted on Insta stories this morning and Kayleigh has just seen the post, and messaged telling me off for going out without a winter coat. But I told her I was wearing my winter coat, but because it's a bit big now, it wasn't covering me to my neck. But getting told to put my coat on by my baby sister, it amused me.

Now, I'm going to have a lobster bath, I've been looking forward to it all day.
