We're planning this year,s day trips, and this is what we're proposing at the moment:

On the Saturday and Sunday, there is the Derbyshire Local Food Fair at Hardwick Hall. We were planning a trip to Hardwick Hall this year anyway, and although Saturday and Sunday are traditionally pure sparkle days, we thought we'd see if people would be interested in a trip out on Sunday instead.

Not too far away is Sudbury Hall and the National Museum of Childhood, which we thought might make a good destination for a trip on Tuesday. Then perhaps on Wednesday, anyone who is interested in another day out could go into Nottingham. This year, I'll try to make a list of things to do there in advance.

ETA: Or go somewhere other than Nottingham by train. Basically -- go somewhere under your own power. :-)

Poll time!

I figured we'd go to Hardwick Hall this year anyway because we decided against it in favor of Haddon Hall last year and the Food Fair is just a total bonus! Mmmmh, foooooood! :D

Sudbury Hall also sounds awesome (and they apparently have cream tea, yay!) as well as the childhood thing! :D

Not sure about going to Nottingham again since I already went last year so I'm skipping it for now but that would be by train again, right? So I could always decide differently?

OMG I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! \o/

The Halls sound perfect. I think I saw the main attractions of Nottingham last year so unless you come up with something completely new to do there I think I'll skip it. Is there anything else within a reasonable distance by train? Derby? Even if it's not particularly touristy, there's always something to do for a couple of hours.

There's always York, which is about 1.5hours away. *g* It's not so bad if you get an early train and then leave just before dinner time. It's not a very big city anyway.

Since I haven't done anything of those, I'm just signing up for everything! :D

I was hoping we would go to Hardwick Hall this year since you went to Haddon Hall last year so yay!

Nottingham is a maybe, but if it's by train, that's okay, right?

Ooh, food fair. NOM.

Nottingham's a maybe, but as others said, if it's by train again -- well, maybe! :)

I've had some interest regarding going to York for another day trip. I know at least [livejournal.com profile] _titch would love to go visit it in lieu of Nottingham, so maybe you could offer it as an alternative for Notts? It's a longer train trip though, about 1.5 hours each way, and I think over 20 pounds for a round trip, but I am more than willing to offer myself up as a guide. Just offering it up if anyone's interested! I'll probably be heading there myself anyway. :)

Oh, right! We were totally thinking about joining you for York this time! :D Totally a valid alternative to Nottingham!

A longer train journey, but I think with Campers the time will zip by! :D I have to show you guys my lovely city, the city centre is fairly small and everything's at a walkable distance. There's a viking museum, a big GORGEOUS cathedral, a railway museum, also the Yorkshire museum, not to mention a medieval street that Diagon Alley was based on!

You had me at CATHEDRAL, bb! :DDD And hey, you said 1.5 h for the train journey somewhere which is still totally okay for me!

It'd be a 1.5h journey by car anyway, and too far for either [livejournal.com profile] pensnest or [livejournal.com profile] nopseud to drive.

Wait, iirc my parents' had been very impressed with the cathredal in York and the pictures look absolutely gorgeous... think I'm in favour of York. (Ok, it's by train, we can decide spontaneously. :D )

I would love to visit York! I haven't been there since 1984 and they were renovating the cathedral then so I didn't get to see it.

EVERYTHING SOUNDS INTERESTING!

I pout at the Change to our traditional schedule, but ah well. "Life is Change, Growth is Optional."

And it seems I may miss out on Nottingham since most everyone went last year, but going to York en masse with JM as tour guide sounds fun, too!

Sadly, Lucy isn't making it this year...I am undecided re: bringing sparkly RPGs this year. Pen finally got the chance to try her hand last year; was anyone interested in tabletop storytelling with dice this year, or shall we just go with the New & Improved Sparkly CRACK and Terri's Sparkly Cluedo? Turlough?

I'd say you have every excuse to cut some of the massive amount of entertainment materials you bring Transatlantic. *wry g*

I think Wednesday's the day Charlie's joining us, so it *might* be a day for staying in the cottage - but York would be just as much fun on Thursday. Anyhoo, a trip that's done by train can be figured out by consensus when we get there.

Any more certain info on what day Charlie is coming? I'm trying to coordinate meeting someone else in York, and it'd be nice (though not vital) to know what day ahead of time.

Definitely up for the halls.

I did Nottingham last year so I think I may do York instead with JM. :)

I would absolutely be up for Hardwick Hall on Sunday, so long as I can get dropped off at a station somewhere on a time scale that gets me back to London before about 10.30... I haven't booked any tickets yet, so I'm flexible about which station! (yay getting to join in a spakly heritage trip!)
