pensnest: Brian in dance pose, Get Down to Camp Sparkle (Camp Sparkle Brian)

Another Camp Sparkle post!

I've already been looking at possible houses for next year, and I think we should go back to Yorkshire, where there is much to see that we have not yet explored.

There is a rather good house in Scarborough which is just 10 minutes from the beach (and has a hot tub). A and I have not had a chance to inspect it yet, and parking may be rather problematic for us, but in general it looks good.

So I'm thinking, when would people like Camp to be, next year?

Beast and I already have certain commitments due to our singing, but we should be able to find some availability in any of the following months:

April
May
June
July
August
September

So when would you prefer to come? I mean, assuming the entire country hasn't been reduced to a starved and savage-infested wasteland by then.

No poll yet, I'd just like to get an idea of your thoughts. We can probably talk about it again at Camp.

PS I'm having a Big Birthday next year, and will be having a party on 7th June. Any and all Campers would be very welcome if you can come—and it occurred to me that having Camp from 12-19 June might work well in that respect. But maybe not!

Later June, any of July, or to a somewhat limited extent August will work for me (second week of August is water safety week, and while I don't teach it, another staff member does and I don't want two regulars out the same time). Very very early September could be ok.

I think Yorkshire would be lovely! I am also having a Big Birthday next year, and as I'm a winter birthday, I'd thought of doing something around the half-birthday. Or can be the next year, when I am actually the Multiple Of Ten.

I’d love to go back to Yorkshire! The house sounds nice. June is usually a pretty good time. But I’m actually going on a big trip to Japan next year, so I’m for once not certain about being able to attend (the trip is in March, so timing should be okay but I will possibly have spent all of my money ^^; )

Yorkshire was lovely! (Closer to London is generally easier for those of us travelling from abroad, but I did manage to get to York by train all by myself last time, so should be no problem!)

June is the best option for me. May and August are probably not going to work (spring term ending / autumn term starting), the others I can probably make arrangements for somehow.

April could be a problem, because Easter, end of May might be one because I might have a choir concert on the Saturday before Pentecost. But otherwise I don't see any general Problems. (I have to get time off work of course!)

I'm so excited!! :D

That would be helpful of course, I'll just really have to see if my budget will allow it.

You're going to Japan, I'm so envious! I was there back in 1992 and I would love to go back. There is so much to see!

I'm happy going just about anywhere in the UK but Yorkshire sounds like a good idea for next year. There is so much to see there!

I would prefer either June or September (there's so much more expensive to fly to the UK in July and August, I've discovered) but I don't have any time I can definitely NOT come.

You're the same age as my sister! I'd my Big Birthday this year :-)

Yorkshire is gorgeous, I kinda fell in love, and I would not mind going back there at all. I'll have to see if I'm still employed then (likely yes, but I'm not banking on shoulds) but if yes, June and July are the easiest to manage (although I can pretty much take vacation days whenever, as long as I let them know in time). Ahhh except August will be tricky for me as that is when my sister will be getting married (!!!) so preferably not that. June or early July would probably be perfect :)

April and May are totally out for me (my closest colleague will be on mat leave, all being well) and August / Sept are also likely to be v. tricky. June or July-but-not-the-last-week would be ideal for me.

I'm starting a new job in September, so I don't know yet how easy it will be for me to get time off next year.

April might work (anytime around Easter is tricky), May will def. work except around the 17th as it might be hard to get a dog sitter on our contstitutional day. But could work.

Early June (up until the 20th ish) should be no problem, and late August + September works for me as well. July will mostly likely be as difficult next year as it is this year.

Honestly, anything but July I should probably be able to make work, depending on dog sitters and one potential wedding that could screw with everything. One of my best friends is getting married, maybe next May but no date set as of yet. Would only be a day though (Saturdays usually), so could potentially arrive later if it crashes with Camp.
