Feb. 26th, 2008 12:05 amMe again. (You'll all be fed up with me by Friday!)
It seems like a good idea to post a proposed schedule, that'll give you - particularly those of you who are staying for the week - an idea of what is available to you, and how much it may cost to participate.
I've also plotted out a rough schedule of vid-watching. Obviously, there is a metric tonne of footage not mentioned, and no doubt there will be times during the day and evening when someone says "Hey, have you got .....", but I think it'd be helpful to have certain things ordered so we know what to watch.
So, here goes.
Friday
Arrivals from 4pm. Tea and biccies and getting settled in.
Supper around 7.30pm
Footage - I suggest we start with the biggies, how about PopOdyssey and Around the World. Personally, I'd love to watch all the music videos in chronological order, together with any 'making of' footage - let's start this on Friday.
Saturday
Discussion groups to take place in the kitchen, where there's a table, unless otherwise negotiated.
Discuss: American vs European - differences in perception. Can you tell when a European writer has written a particular story? How? What's different? (Is there a difference between Brits and Other Europeans?)
Lunch
Discuss: Lance's book, what do we think of it, has it changed the way we write and/or what we want to read? What matters?
Follow on from this (possibly): how has popslash fic changed since hiatus became more and more obviously breakup? Older fans' perceptions vs newer fans' perceptions about what popslash *is*?
Sparkly Cluedo in sitting room as optional activity (or possibly follow-on)
Supper: Fish and chips
Viewing: Driven, Snowed In, tiny baby BSBs. More music videos, and some of Dacey's stuff and their ilk?
Karaoke? If it works, I have some disks, but no mike. We could all sing along?
Late: The Lava Lamp Story, oo-er. Everyone should experience this.
Sunday
Brunch
Discuss: AUs in popslash - why are there so many good AUs in popslash? Does it make a difference that it is RPS? What are some of the best ones? What about the worst ones?
Discuss: Beta - how it works for you, how to improve your beta-reading, what to look for, what you need from a beta, what you hate when you are a beta, etc
3pm Afternoon Tea - scones with jam and cream
Sparkly Cluedo or other RPG in kitchen/viewing something in lounge - Harry and Max, or possibly something that does not require brain bleach, eg Little Red Riding Hood
Supper
EDIT: Viewing: BSB night!
General activities:
Add Five Words story book will be located by the Nibbles, as before
If possible, I will print out a selection of stories so we have a 'library'
Some other games, eg Scrabble, could be provided for those who don't want to join in the particular discussion, though I suspect Josh has a lot of options on the games front
A Loot exchange area could be set up somewhere for the duration of the weekend, probably.
nopseud may have a 'manicure corner' somewhere
We could have, say, Nsyncland DVDs available in case a few people want to watch something unscheduled while other stuff is going on.
Obviously there will be some goodbyes either on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Then we get to the more general part of the excursion, where you have the chance to look around the very pretty environs of Lyndhurst.
Monday
General opportunity to wander around Lyndhurst, where there is The New Forest Centre along the High Street, a smallish local museum and gift shop, and the New Forest Reptile Centre along the Bournemouth Road (off the A35 towards Christchurch). Opportunities for purchasing overpriced mead and liqueurs!
Task for the day - decide which pub we will grace with our presence in the evening, and inform them at lunchtime.
Lunch - diy sandwiches in the cottage or biy something in the village. There are tea rooms.
Supper - at the pub. (I will have done Lyndhurst-Stansted, Stansted-Hemel-Lyndhurst, and will be in a mood to be waited on.)
Apres-pub: Cranium/A sparkly game/more footage - what?
Tuesday
Sight-seeing trip to Winchester, which has Cathedral, Great Hall, College, City Museum etc, some of which are even free to visitors.
Lunch - for economy, I suggest we take own-made sandwiches etc from the cottage
Discuss (while cooking supper): how to run an Unbirthday Challenge, and is it a good idea?
Viewing: Suggestions, plz?
Wednesday
Sight-seeing trip to Beaulieu - with Palace, Abbey and National Motor Museum all in one place.
Lunch - I suggest we plan to eat our main meal at Beaulieu, everyone choose according to own budget, as I couldn't see provision for indoor picnicking, and we can't rely on the weather.
Supper - sandwiches etc at the cottage
9 pm Torchwood! (assuming we can get round the tv to watch it)
Subsequent Viewing: Edison, Justin's FutureSex LoveSounds concert?
Thursday
Tourist options to be decided
Obvious options are (a) Stonehenge and Salisbury (another magnificent Cathedral, and a very pretty town
or (b) New Forest, Otter and Owl Sanctuary
or there are New Forest Cider and Setley Ridge Vineyard, though these are mostly opportunities to purchase, at this time of year. Or, if any of you have had a look at the New Forest area, and have somewhere you'd like to visit, we can try that.
We can discuss whether people want to eat out at lunchtime or take sandwiches, and what we do about supper will depend on that decision.
Evening Viewing: The Cooler, maybe even On The Line - JoLa night!
NB For the sight-seeing trips, the minibus will take 15, which is I think adequate if we all decide to go off to Winchester, etc. Obviously, none of these trips is compulsory! And no doubt anyone who doesn't fancy the tourist stuff will be able to find ways to be entertained in the cottage.
So. Nominations for your favourite must-see interviews please!

Yes, Yes I Do.
Although most of what I was planning on bringing besides Sparkly
CrackCluedo was RPGs, which would need me to run them. (Of course, if anyone thinks they can run one off the top of their head, go for it! But then I'll want to play, lol.) I was planning on bringing ordinary Clue because Noora has never played it, but now I've got so much American Junk Food, I'm not sure how much more room to fit games I'll have! And Saturday, I want to watch Driven & Snowed In! I've never seen either! Y'all may have to figure out Sparkly Cluedo without me at that point, lol. And of course, Scrabble could be played with Fandom Words, and someone is bringing *NSYNC Uno, I hope?

Date: 2008-02-27 05:18 am (UTC)victimplayer! Awesome!Actually, I may spend brain time on the plane figuring out some scenarios. I've got characters ready for all SORTS of things, but the only games I have ready-to-run ('cause I've done them before) are Buffy & Supernatural. But I'll be bringing superheroes & Other Stuff, so we'll just see.
And as far as Sparkly Cluedo goes, I've no idea how long a game takes, since it's only just been produced, obviously. There is NOT 400 characters, obviously, nor even 400 cards. The playing deck is probably over 250, but there's only the ten Sparkly Dance Boys as players...and Various Others as other characters, heh. But no, it is NOT actually all that much like Cluedo, or Clue, as it's known in America. Clue is my favorite game, and Sparkly Cluedo is based on it, but it might more properly be called Sparkly Crack, instead. It's basically last year's Add Five Words story turned into a scavenger-hunt boardgame, hee.

Date: 2008-02-26 12:52 pm (UTC)Sunday may have to pause for a dancing on ice break away group.
and can we get a recent footage session into the main weekend? - ManBand and JC's dance thing and anything else that would count as 'current canon'?

Date: 2008-02-26 02:36 pm (UTC)ETA: Also! I have The Hollow on DVD, the campy 'horror flick' that Nick starred in in 2004. I can bring that if anyone wants to watch it?

Also I'll be bringing my all my NSYNCLAND DVDs, and I have many. Although no more than I had last year, since the guy stopped taking PayPal and freed me from my addiction :)
