pensnest: bright-eyed baby me (Camp Sparkle Death Cake)
[personal profile] pensnest posting in [community profile] campsparkle
Camp is going to be an unusual shape this year, what with most of us going into London for the first full day. I've been having a look at a possible timetable for outings and notable events, and I'm thinking, how about this:

Friday: Arrivals Evening footage - ? Classic pop stuff? New pop stuff? Films? Requests, please!

Saturday: TRIP to London, including concert

Sunday: POP DAY including at least one discussion session.
I have a topic to propose: differences between 'classic' popslash stories and more recent ones. How do you tell what era it's from, and why is that? However, if any of you have more possible discussions to propose, please comment with them. Also, footage requests.

Monday: TRIP This seems like a good day for going into Portsmouth to explore. An outing, but minibus not needed as we are better off walking and getting the ferry on foot.

Tuesday: Sparkly Day. If the weather is unkind to us on Monday, we can do the Portsmouth thing on Tuesday instead. More discussions? Footage requests? Creation and decoration of sparkly dancing cookies? (I am happy to bring cookie cutters and sprinkles if required.)

Wednesday: MODERATELY SPARKLY DINNER tonight, so bring something shiny to wear. There may well be an auxiliary outing to the Bovington Tank Museum on this day for those of you who want to beg a place in the car.

Thursday: Visit to a stately home, something we've been doing during every Camp for a while now. I have two suggestions:
(a) Beaulieu, currently advertising from Cistercian monks to Formula One racing cars. National Motor Museum, World of Top Gear, James Bond exhibition, Palace House and Victorian Flower Gardens. Beaulieu is a big place.
(b) somewhat smaller scale, Breamore House and Countryside Museum (paintings, needlework and porcelain, museum with replica of blacksmith's shop, dairy, brewery, saddler's, steam powered farm machinery), with the option of also visiting the Rockbourne Roman Villa which is in the same area

Preferences? I think we can talk this one out in comments and see if a vote looks necessary.

Dinners

We will need to do our usual thing with regard to cooking dinners, but of course that is complicated somewhat by the Saturday outing. We'll do a shopping trip on Friday afternoon to get breakfast and basics in, and there'll probably be leftover shepherd's pie/fish pie if the stay-at-homes are okay with that for Saturday. Whoever signs up to cater Sunday's dinner had better be ready with a list of requirements!

Sign up in comments, please, and I'll fill in.

Friday: Pen (usual pies, unless there is a revolution)

Saturday: fend for ourselves

Sunday: Chief Chef: Chalcopyrite

Monday:

Tuesday:

Wednesday's Moderately Sparkly Dinner: Pen (Kitchen minions willing to talk about Adam Lambert and/or Lance Bass will be particularly appreciated!)

Thursday: probably no cook needed, we can eat Wednesday's leftovers/pizza/fish & chips etc

Finally (hah!), I know we have Chalcopyrite who's a vegetarian, Turlough who needs to be gluten-free, and Trumpeterofdoom who does not eat beef. Any other needs to be accommodated?

ETA Does anyone have an allergy to almonds? See Turlough's comment below.

I'm not much of a cook, but I make a great assistant/sous chef.... Can I sign up to assist other people for a couple days?

And I am definitely a minion willing to talk Adam Lambert and Lance Bass!

All sounds fabulous! I'm up for the Thursday stately home trip, I don't mind either of the options. :)

I'm no cook, but I'll gladly help anyone in the way of prep.

I could totes make a nice salad with some garlic bread on the side on Tuesday (or Monday if we change the day for Portsmouth around). And I can definitely be a kitchen minion! :D

[livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard and I wanted to see The Avengers and as there's a movie theater very close to the ferry in Portsmouth, we could totes do that on whichever day we end up going to Portsmouth. And other people interested should definitely join us!

Also, I'd kinda like to go to the Isle of Wight. We could go and see Osborne House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_House)! :D? Otherwise Breamore House sounds pretty cool.

Also, I would kinda like to make a Playlist for Wednesday with all the dance-y BSB/Nsync/JC/AJ/Justin music so we can add SPARKLY DANCE PARTY to Wednesday's Sparkly Dinner. Y/Y?! :DDD

Ooh, I am in early! I'll sign up to cook Sunday (note: NOT, for once, a day we're doing things!) -- I can make either my usual pasta & sauce, or the sweet potato curry I mentioned in my journal. Or possibly something else I will be inspired by in the meantime. I will also happily Minion if more are needed.

Either of the stately homes sounds good -- National Motor Museum might have a bit of an edge, but then again, steam-powered farm machinery. *g*

Alas, I am terrible at coming up with discussion questions. :(

Oh darn, I'm in London already and I don't have anything sparkly to wear (is AJ's ugly neck tat tshirt of doom counted?).

I should point out that I am EXTREMELY keen on visiting the Dickens Birthplace Museum in Portsmouth at some point during the week. Also I'll probably be arriving after lunchtime on Monday and I don't know how this might work out? I'll probably be taking the train to Portsmouth Harbour station, and then ferrying it over, and then walking (or taxiing depending on how tired I am) to the house. Does that sound sensible or is there something I'm missing?

Sign me up as a kitchen minion! And I don't mind either for the Thursday outing.

I can definitely be a kitchen minion (and am always willing to talk about Adam Lambert and Lance Bass. *g*)
I also volunteer for baking a cake on one day! Since the cake I have in mind is made with yeast it should be a day where we'll stay at home - it's not difficult to make, but yeast shall not be rushed. ;) (I'm assuming the kitchen has something to knead dough with?)

From: [personal profile] turlough
It's my birthday on Sunday so I was thinking of baking a cake for the occasion. Since I'm not going to the concert on Saturday I'll have plenty of time to do it then. I would like to do Citrus and Almond Cake* but to do so I need a food processor, a grater, a lemon squeezer, and possibly an electric whisk for the accompanying whipped cream. Would either you or Anna be willing to bring this? If not, I can do something simpler. (Can you buy one-use cake tins in ordinary stores in England? Because if not I need two cake tins too. I don't think one cake will be enough for all of us.)

I want to go to Breamore House on Thursday. I love Elizabethan manor houses.

*Unless someone is allergic to almonds that is. I don't think anyone is, but I might be wrong. Maybe I should make a separate post and ask?

I'd be happy to cook again if people are willing to eat it. *g*

I'm thinking about some meat with vegetables in a creamy sauce that's cooked in the oven, with home-made Spätzle. No beef, part of it without meat for chalcopyrite, and an alternative side dish for turlough.

Not on Tuesday, if possible, as I was planning to go to the Isle of Wight (Labor Day is a traditional day for going hiking or walking in Germany). And do we even need something new on Thursday? Didn't we jsut have leftovers last year? Ah, and pizza, I remember that.

I'll happily cook on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, but I'd prefer not to on Monday if the daytrip proves taxing for me...whether it does or not will mostly depend on the weather and how bollocksed my sleep schedule/jetlag is at that point. Ummm, I'd also like to avoid cooking on whatever day we go see the Avengers, if possible.

For dinner, I'm plotting a "traditional" Red, White, and Blue American meal...it has beef, but as it's meatloaf-related, it can also be done with pork sausage, and I'm looking into a veggie-alternative for Jenny. The Blue portion is a blueberry sauce to be served over ice cream for dessert, so whichever day does not already have cakes or pies already involved would probably work best.

And I suspect I'll be able to make ample use of scullions, if minions are still available!

So, it looks like Tuesday would be the best night for me to cook, unless Monday & Tuesday plans get swapped?

Or, if we're home in timely fashion and my legs aren't killing me, cooking my "Red, White, and Blue" dinner after half of us just saw the Avengers would be kind of amusing (leave me to my delusional amusements!)

In sadder news, I did not receive the box of Pixy Stix that supposedly shipped, like, a WEEK AGO, and I leave for the airport in just a few hours, so they will probably be waiting for me when I get home, grrrr. Moar for Next Year? Phooey.

But, I still have plenty of other "medicinal" American "food"stuffs to bring, so we'll get by. I'll be irritated if we have no Pixy Stix left to chug during the Reel *Nsync, though.

See Y'all Soon!
