Luggage!

As rikes just raised the matter in my previous post, it's probably worth making a top-level information post about it: the cottage will be supplied with one bath towel and one hand towel per person. So you don't need to bring towels. (ETA: those of you staying at my house before or after, don't worry, I can provide you with a towel while you're here.)

In fact, for those travelling with me, I'd be most grateful if you can streamline the luggage a bit (if that's possible), as I think there will be either one or two more of us travelling via my house/Stansted than last time, and last time we only just fat in the minibus. Hence my husband, the mule - more people, more luggage - but the Prius isn't that large, so...

Do not underestimate the amount of stuff it is possible to get into a Prius, particularly if you put one or both back seats down. (It's a pity I won't be able to make it - I am a Prius packing EXPERT.)

If at all possible, I would focus on getting bodies into the van, and use the Prius for baggage - it tends to fit much more that way than if you're trying to get a mix of people and stuff.

I'm making a conscious effort to pack much lighter than I have in the past (just because omg stress at the airport over luggage weight is so annoying and yet I do it every year), but we'll see how well that turns out. :P

I'll try to only bring one small suitcase as well as my bag. I always bring stuff I never use anyway. And I'm sure I won't need three or four pairs of shoes ;)

I think I will have a medium sized suitcase. I just took my mini to Wales and it was a major struggle. :/

My train will be in London around 2.30pm, it'll take me a while to maneuver myself onto the right train to St. Albans - you have a suggestion which bus I should take from St. Albans to your house? You said there's a bus stop at your road, so I might be okay just asking around, but I figured you have the best info. ;) I'll have access to my e-mail for a few more hours, so either a comment or a text message will work! Hi! When you get to St Pancras International, you need to look for the trains to Bedford. Essentially, it's the opposite direction to the Underground, so just walk a long way until you get to the end of the station, there'll be some ticket booths, and you'll be directed through a barrier and down some escalators to get to the platform. (You want the Northbound side.)

I strongly recommend you phone rikes when you're on the way to St Albans. She may well be *in* St Albans for the afternoon.

The bus you need is the 300 or the 301. There will be two stops for those buses, as some are going towards the town centre (this is the one you need) and others towards Stevenage or Hatfield or somewhere like that. If you've already spoken to rikes, she'll be able to say whether she's at my house by then or in the middle of town. If she (and possibly also KC) is ready to come back, she could arrange to get on the same bus you're on—or, if you're in the mood to look around town, just get a ticket to the town centre and they can meet you at the bus stop.

If the others are already back at my house, get the bus to Leverstock Green and ask the driver if he can let you off at the Greenacres stop. The journey takes perhaps 20 minutes from the station (depending on traffic). You go through a bit of St Albans, then through some countryside. When you start seeing yellow boxes (speed cameras!) at the side of the road, you're close! The first stop in Leverstock Green is literally opposite the end of Greenacres—and if the others are at home, they may be able to come and wait there for you, so you'll know you are in the right place! I'll unfortunately be at Heathrow at about that time so I can't make your life easier by coming to fetch you.
