Arty stuff, part three

Hmm. Well. Post-poll, I'm wondering whether going off to some kind of workshop is really worth doing? I can get back to the gallery place and ask if they'd be happy to do a workshop for 5-6 people, which looks like all it would be, but perhaps it would be better for those of us who like the idea simply to show up at their open session, which I believe is on Wednesday afternoon?

What we could also do is have some in-house creative options, not necessarily scheduled but available as backups in case of foul weather.

I'm planning on bringing crayons and some of the nifty adult colouring books for everyone to share.

We could do our own cupcake baking and decorating session (does anyone have fancy icing nozzles?), or do the ninjabread men in sparkly outfits?

And is there anyone who'd like to learn to knit, or to learn some knitting techniques they don't know? Because I think there are enough people who knit to be able to run quite a fun session on beginning/improving. I've got about a thousand knitting needles and quite a lot of stash yarn which I'm happy to donate.

I *could* bring the glass painting stuff, if anyone wants to have a go at making Pen-style cards - will only dig it out of the Lion's Cage if there is actual interest, so let me know.

Does anyone else have an arty-crafty skill they could share?

Most importantly, would any of you like to participate in any of the above?

I think a yarn-type session sounds like fun! (And enough of us know some nifty stuff, which does not overlap, that we could have a lot of material!) Anyone want to learn how to crochet?

Colouring books also sound fun. A quiet Crafternoon in general sounds like a neat thing.

I bought a crochet set of an owl that looked very cute and is for kids so I thought I'd be able to handle it but I think I need some help - would love if you could give me some tips, I'll try to remember to bring it along :)

I've tried to learn to knit, but it never sticks for me, so no go for me on that. Crocheting might be more fun, just to make small things?

I second a Crafternoon in general. Would totally be up to learning how to chochet, or knit anything more complicated than your regular back and forward thing. As you can tell by that explanation, I rock at knitting :p

If anyone wants to make cupcakes, I'd probably be inn. I have a pretty awesome recipe for cheese and white chocolate frosting, but since the stove is a gass stove of pure evil, topping is the only time I'd be helpful. That and batter-tasting.

The knitting sounds fun in general, but I'm pretty sure the English knitting technique would confuse me terribly. ;)

I would definitely be up for a crafternoon in good company, although I don't have any particular skills to offer. Glass painting would be nifty and different, but not at the expense of additional stress to you ;)

I'm definitely up for making (gluten-free) cupcakes. I have the Dalek cupcake liners I got from Terri I want to use. (I also have K9-shaped cookie cutter if we want to make ninjabread.) I have a very nice cupcake recipe with chopped hazelnuts and white chocolate (also rhubarb if one happen to have some at hand) that I know works with glutenfree flour. I suppose you can get glutenfree flour in the UK? If not I can always bring a bag with me. I don't have any icing nozzles however.

I'm also bringing the Dalek straws so if we have some blue food colouring we can make Doctor Who lemonade :-)

I'm leaving two days earlier this year however (Wednesday morning) so it will have to be before that.

I'm not the best at teaching but I can at least show people how to knit (and purl!) Scandinavian. Also colourwork if anyone's interested.

I will check out gluten free flour next time I am in Sainsburys - I expect it is a possible thing. And I have plenty of fine food colourings, so fancily coloured anythings will be doable.

Crafternoon! I love that! I'd definitely love to try adult coloring books, they look neat! And I would def join a knitting/crochet meet up :D The baking also sounds fun - she says, having a cheesecake fresh from the oven as she types.

A Crafternoon sounds like delightful fun! (Of course, most Camp Things sound like delightful fun...)

Also, we've had tremendous luck with the weather for two years running, so we may well be due a rainy afternoon (or several.)

I can't crochet or knit, and I haven't done origami in DECADES, but I bet it'd be fun to try again. Ooo, we could do paper airplanes, too! *cue On the Line*

I'm afraid my art training is mostly acting/singing (which I'd be happy to discuss, if people wanted!) and messy stuff like oils, watercolor, and pastels, but I could certainly do a Drawing 101 for anyone who was interested! Scaling an image up is pretty easy, which you usually end up doing regardless of medium, so I could show that, and I've done lots of stuff with perspective and visual orientation for comic books and things, which people might find interesting (and isn't as easily found as most basics.)

Unfortunately, I won't be able to pack art supplies, but all we would need is paper and pencils and a ruler or T-square or something for straight lines, all of which is easy to come by.

These days I'm mostly doing coloring books if I'm being crafty...
By which I mean to say, I can totally bring a book and pencils, and hang out doing that, while people do various other crafty things. (It's what I do at the v.v. casual stitch'n'bitch type group I'm in.)

Contribution wise: I possess and am willing to bring it me a box of piping tips for fancy frostings. Wilton won't be hiring me to teach any time soon, but I do know how to use most of them.

Is anyone interested in easy candy making? I can do marshmallows, caramels and a few other things. {is there a mixer there? Would need one of those].

I'm drawing a big blank on anything else..... jewelry making, I dabble in that. Wreaths, though I'm not sure how'd we'd manage that for the group.

I've no idea what you'd need for demo-ing jewelry or wreath making, but I think some of this is going to be more "technique show & tell", so if it was more a seminar rather than a hands-on participation, that could work. We've done similar things with Mette giving an overview of how she puts songvids together and such in the past.

I'm not sure whether there was a mixer - I can't remember one, but granted, I wasn't really looking for one!
There were no (working) kitchen scales, that I do remember. (I am pondering bringing my small one. I can measure ingredients by eyeballing, but I prefer not to).

And it sounds like you might be the better provider of fancy frosting tips then (especially if you know how to use them!). Watch me peer over your shoulder while you do that! ;)

I will probably bring my electric hand whisk, but if you need more mixer than that, I don't think there will be anything suitable.
